How it works
Azelaic acid acts on the bacteria and the excess cell turnover involved in acne, and it can reduce redness in rosacea a clinician has chosen to treat. The 20% cream is a leave-on medicine, not a wash and not a general skin lightener.
Use only the amount and schedule a clinician prescribes. The cream is applied to the affected skin. It can sting on the first days of use. Keep it off the eyes, mouth, and broken skin.
Tell a clinician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, eczema, and other acne creams, especially retinoids. The cream can sting, itch, or dry the treated skin. Stop and seek care for severe swelling, blistering, or a spreading rash. Keep away from children.
