A microgram strength is not a suggestion. 25 mcg is not half of a job that 100 mcg was meant to do, and a larger bottle is a supply size, not a reason to take more. The daily dose is set from symptoms and blood tests.
Two brands, one active
Eltroxin and Thyronorm at the same microgram contain the same active ingredient. They are still different products. A switch from one brand to the other belongs with the clinician who reads the thyroid tests, not with a checkout comparison.
Eltroxin is listed at 25, 50, 75, 88 and 100 mcg. Thyronorm is listed at 25, 50, 75, 100 and 112 mcg. 88 mcg is Eltroxin only. 112 mcg is Thyronorm only. Those two are not substitutes for 100 mcg.
How it is taken
The usual direction is once a day, on an empty stomach, at the same time, with water, and at least 30 minutes before food. Calcium, iron and antacids can block absorption, so they need a gap of several hours. Follow the leaflet in the bottle you receive.
Thyroxine is not a weight-loss tablet when thyroid tests are normal. Too much can cause palpitations, tremor, sweating, insomnia or chest pain. Say so before you order if you have heart disease, adrenal or pituitary disease, diabetes, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Chest pain, a severe headache or a very fast heartbeat is urgent care.
