Why semaglutide tablet milligrams are not the pen’s milligrams
A daily semaglutide tablet for weight management reached pharmacies in early 2026. A study of US retail prescriptions, published in October 2026, found that new fills passed 100,000 a month within two months of launch. Fills for the weekly injection did not fall. The tablet added people. It also added a lot of confusion about the number on the box. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It copies a gut hormone involved in appetite and in insulin release when blood sugar is high. A tablet and a pen can both contain that ingredient. The way it enters the body changes how much of a swallowed or injected milligram reaches the blood, so each form has its own strength list.
